IGP Order New Posting of CPs in Adamawa, Plateau...

 T he Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the posting of four Commissioners of Police to states and police formation. The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba, a deputy commissioner of police, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. He said the CPs deployed are: Olugbenga Adeyanju, Adamawa, Isaac Akinmoyede, Imo, Audu Madaki, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja and Edward Chuka, Plateau. Mr Adamu enjoined the residents of the affected states to accord the CPs maximum support and cooperation. He charged the newly posted officers to ensure they effectively consolidate and improve on the performances of their predecessors. The IGP said the postings were with immediate effect. World News: WHO warns of virus impact in Middle East war zones

PHOTO: Fabrice Coffrini/AFP/Getty The World Health Organization warned Tuesday of the impact coronavirus could have in Middle Eastern conflict zones and urged other countries in the region against loosening confinement measures. “This fight has become even more challenging with the appearance of the virus in countries such as the Syrian Arabic Republic, Libya and Yemen,” said the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean director Ahmed al-Mandhari. Years of turmoil and conflicts have destroyed healthcare infrastructure in these countries, leaving vulnerable populations prone to infectious diseases as they grapple with limited access to basic medical services, he told an online press conference from Cairo. Another serious challenge in these countries is political fragmentation, which has often hindered information sharing and humanitarian access in these countries, Mandhari added.   The United States (US) on Monday pledged to support Nigeria in its fight against coronavirus. US President Donald Trump made the pledge to Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari in a phone call on Tuesday, a presidential aide Bashir Ahmad disclosed. “President Muhammadu Buhari had a phone conversation with the US President Donald Trump today, the two leaders discussed Nigeria’s efforts to defeat the COVID–19 Pandemic,” Ahmad tweeted. “President Trump pledged US support and solidarity."

 Nigerian Government has declared Friday, May 1, as public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day Celebration. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who declared the holiday in a statement, commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, patience and understanding, particularly in their support of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration’s efforts at stemming the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Aregbesola assured that workers commitment and patience will complement the efforts being made by Government and other stakeholders to ensure the speedy control of the virus.
