The star-studded cast also includes Thuso Mbedu as Zélie, Tosin Cole as Tzain, Amandla Stenberg as Princess Amari, Damson Idris as Prince Inan, Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, and Regina King as Queen Nehanda. Other notable cast members include British-Nigerian basketball players Temi Fagbenle, Pamilerin Ayodeji, Kola Bodunde, Shamz Garuba, Zackary Momoh, and Saniyya Sidney.
“Children of Blood and Bone” is a “Black Lives Matter-inspired fantasy novel” that tells the story of an oppressive world where magic has been suppressed. The novel is set in the mythical kingdom of Orïsha and follows the journey of Zélie and her brother Tzain as they attempt to restore magic to their world.
It is however understood that Adeyemi’s novel was inspired by her Nigerian heritage and Yoruba culture. The 30-year-old author has been hailed as the next J.K. Rowling, and her novel has been praised for it richly imagined world and compelling characters.
